Job Description
Creating interactive user interfaces for
stand-alone software product and web sites for mobile and
desktop. Assuming responsibility as the usability specialist
in the company and advising on development approach, placing
the user’s needs (rather than the system’s) at the center of
the design process.
Responsibilities
- Applies user-centered design process
to create high quality user experiences
- Ensures ease of use and continuity of
user experience
- Communicates with different teams and
individuals, including marketing, product developers,
software engineers and QA to define product user
interface specifications
- Responsible for integrity of the user
interface and overall usability on significant projects.
Coordinates activity with internal customers,
programmers and other designers on usability and
aesthetic aspects relating to the project
- Plans and conducts usability
evaluations such as usability tests, heuristic
evaluations, field studies and competitive analyses
iteratively during and after product development
- Mocks up paper prototypes based on
screen shots or graphic templates
- Creates user interface design
specification documents
- Maintains continuous quality
improvement in meeting internal and external customer
requirements
- Reports to Marketing Manager or
Product Development Manager
Required Skills and Experiences
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on
experience for developing interactive products
- Demonstrated experience with
developing user-friendly interfaces for software
products and web sites
- Ability to focus on the customer’s
needs
- Knowledge of basic interaction design/user-centered
design principles
- Familiarity with UI industry
standards for interface design and user testing
methodologies
- Some experience with statistical
analysis of user research
- Working knowledge of design tools
(e.g., Photoshop, Flash, Fireworks)
- Working knowledge of
HTML, XML Technologies
- Knowledge of
JavaScript and AJAX is a plus
- Working knowledge on Flash or
Director is highly desirable, but not required.
- Ability to deliver high quality work
on tight schedules
- Careful attention to detail
- A portfolio of design samples (e.g.,
coursework or class projects) is desirable but not
required
